I wrote two fics this year and received two. I defaulted and didn't think I'd get any, so I couldn't believe my luck. You should read my gift fics, if you're in the Old Kingdom fandom! I have two adventure/exploration fics for Lirael and the Disreputable Dog, as they go exploring in the great Clayr library: After Hours by the_antichris and Discoveries to Share by Sheeana.

I wrote A Sea Change (2,868 words) for Phantom ([personal profile] rosabelle) which is fork-in-the-road AU for Jehanne/Moirin, and which I think is pretty unsurprising (I felt extremely not-anon during the entire exchange). I JUST THINK THAT JEHANNE SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED. They are so gorgeous together. Yeah. Not over it. Never over it.

I think Jehanne is really quite perceptive when it comes to people. I wonder if this is why Daniel loved her so much. I want to write something pre-Kiss about Jehanne and Daniel and Raphael, actually.

I also wrote Traveller's Lodging (620 words) for kaesa (kaesa) for Madness. I got to this point and then went "oh no but how do I keep going". I have to think of some way of reorganizing things so I can keep going!

Conclusion: more research is in order. Also as I was writing this I was researching early medieval Europe which is a very different thing and it was all...14th century! Focus on England! Oh noes!

I would like to say right now that I HATE TITLES. I shall start a Society for the Abrogation of Titles. Or Titles Anonymous, for writers suffering from the terribleness of trying to pick a title. For A Sea Change all I could think of was a pun (and I'm so sorry--but hey I used title case! It was even more pretentious before!) and as for kaesa's, I literally ran out of time and had to slap the most terribad title on. Yeah, about that...

This year I wrote and finished 4 fic: two in Kushiel's Legacy, one in Old Kingdom, and one in Time Traveller's Guide to 14th Century England. Of all the fics I wrote, I think I liked the Old Kingdom one best (By breakwater and river), because I got to write action and I love adventure/action/case/mission kinds of novels and stories best. AO3 says that 2013's output is 9447 words, which is an increase of almost precisely 200% (2.003815...) over 2012. The majority was in By breakwater and river, which is 4K.

In other writing, I have few hard numbers because I'm really bad at recording stuff in spreadsheets. I did not finish Nanowrimo for the first time ever, but I did start on an unmentionable project, and finally wrote treats for yuletide, so overall, still happy! I blame the craziness of this year. You know what I still have to finish? That Mavros/Amarante fic. It's still sitting at 11K with zero progress since December 2012 *facepalm* I need a kick in the pants.

I would totally join you in that society. My hatred for titles is HIGH and only slightly above my hatred of summaries. Titles! BLARGH

We can be founding members! Screw titles!

Summaries and TAGGING also suck.
Jan. 2nd, 2014 02:11 am (UTC)
Oh YES, TAGGING. Double blargh. I always feel like a moron trying to come up with tags. I can't stand the tumblr style OMG FEELS ones but there has to be something better than "friendship" or "post canon" or whatever.

YES but I also see what people mean by them being more accurate sometimes in conveying the feel of the fic (like you can say "soulbond" but what kind of soulbond? Cracky, angsty, etc). And yet I haaaaate how they don't really work with the idea of tags = browsing.

I feel like there's a lot of relationship/sexual tags but not a lot for, er, everything else.
Jan. 2nd, 2014 02:49 am (UTC)
Yeah, some tags make browsing nice, but so many wind up being useless. Blargh.

IKR?! Someone suggested splitting tags into "for browsing" and "for information"--and both have and eat the cake. I think this would be kind of complicated though!

Mavros/Amarante? Ooh. Is it already on AO3? I could give you a kick in the pants by commenting on it :P

I never have problems with titles! Sometimes my titles are silly, but I'm happy with them. I wish I could charge out my services.

No, it's still on my computer. And...er...in Scrivener's proprietary file format still; I haven't really taken time to compile everything together. And it's more like "Amarante's Year of Service with extra emphasis on Mavros" but so far it's been Amarante/Sidonie, Amarante/OFC and I just got to Mavros/Amarante and then Nanowrimo 2012 ended and I chickened out. D:

I would contract for your titling services, for sure. I loathe titling.

Where do I apply for membership in the Society for the Abrogation of Titles? Pretty sure I'd be a shoe-in; I am one of those people meme hates, defaulting to song lyrics.
Jan. 2nd, 2014 03:03 am (UTC)
Hahaha we should totally make a society, because there seems to be lots of title haters. I don't really mind song titles, and every time I see a terrible title I assume they had no idea what to do with their titles either like me :P

ETA btw I only JUST realized a few days ago that your name is APGeeksOut instead APGeekScout which is totally what I read for ages *facepalm* It's a great name :D
